Cala Moraig (Benitachell)
Dramatic gravel cove below the cliffs of Benitatxell, known for crystal-clear water, strong scenery and excellent snorkelling.
Description
Cala Moraig lies below the Puig Llorença massif in one of the most dramatic coastal settings near Moraira. High limestone cliffs, deep blue-green water and the wide arc of gravel give it a wilder appearance than the sandy beaches of Moraira itself, even though it is one of the best-known coves in the area.
The sea is exceptionally clear and the rocky sides of the cove make it a favourite for snorkelling and diving. One of the main landmarks is Cova dels Arcs, the striking rock formation at the water’s edge, which adds a strong geological identity to the beach and makes the whole setting feel more spectacular than a standard bathing spot.
Access is straightforward up to the parking area, but the final stretch is on foot and the beach is more gravel than sand, so sturdy sandals or water shoes are useful. Moraig suits visitors who want scenery, clear water and a more natural beach experience, while still having practical services in the main season.
